Emilie Jacques, MA

Therapist

My Therapeutic Approach

I value the therapeutic alliance and my goal is to create a warm and supportive environment which cultivates progress and therapeutic results. Utilizing behavioral and acceptance-based approaches, I work with clients to reduce the power of one’s OCD/anxiety, by helping them learn how to compassionately and actively embrace the exposure process.

In addition to exposure therapy, the main therapeutic principles I integrate into my practice are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Self-compassion principles are also intertwined into the aforementioned approaches and play an important role in therapeutic process.

My Education and Training

I received my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Franciscan University and my Bachelors degree with a major in Psychology, and double minor in Family Gender & Society and Theology from Ave Maria University. Through my prior work, I have gained extensive training across a range of settings including outpatient, academic, and medically assisted addictions treatment settings, working with clients 5 years old through adulthood. I have experience working with a range of client challenge areas, such as OCD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, specific phobias, depression, and addiction. In addition, I have provided individual therapy, group therapy, and intensive outpatient programming care to clients.

Across the therapeutic approaches, I have connected with the power of exposure therapy in helping clients instill values-based, positive change. My passion for exposure therapy, led me to seek specialized training and supervision from Dr. Kimberly Glazier Leonte, PhD. I have also completed the ERP School’s training program; the program is focused on utilizing exposure and response prevention as a main treatment approach for OCD therapy. For a more in-depth look at my clinical experiences please refer to my curriculum vitae.

My Areas of Specialty

In addition to my specialized training in OCD, anxiety and perfectionism at Clearview Horizons, I also have significant experience working with clients struggling with addiction. The cornerstone of my work as a therapist is to help clients learn how to be with uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and situations and be able to make choices that align with their values, not the values of their OCD/anxiety or their substance urges.
