Rebecca Shaw, MA
Therapist
My Therapeutic Approach
While there are foundational counseling skills that I utilize when working with clients with OCD and anxiety, I also believe it is important to tailor the approaches to the individual person and their needs. A main therapeutic principle of my work is exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, which is considered the gold-standard approach for OCD and anxiety. In addition, I implement acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and compassion-focused therapy (CFT) into the therapeutic process.
I also have an extensive background in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and implement specific DBT skills into sessions with clients when helpful.

My Education and Training
I received my masters in mental health counseling from William James College and my undergraduate degree from Kenyon College, where I majored in psychology. I completed my first year internship at Youth Opportunities Upheld and my second year internship at Wellpath Correctional Healthcare.
In addition to my internship experiences, I previously worked at McLean Hospital 3East, a DBT-based residential program for adolescents. In addition to providing residential level of care, I gained experience working in outpatient settings through my roles at ABC Counseling and Mentor South Bay. My prior volunteering at Samaritans, a suicide crisis hotline, further strengthened my abilities to calmly and effectively help clients navigate highly emotionally triggering situations. For a more in-depth look at my clinical experiences please refer to my curriculum vitae.
My Areas of Specialty
Across my internships, jobs, and volunteer positions I have gained extensive experience working with people of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds in both individual and group settings. Similarly, I have worked with a variety of mental health challenge areas, including anxiety/OCD, trauma, impulsivity, and depression.
While I am driven to provide high-quality therapeutic care for all my clients, my passion for working with people with OCD and anxiety has fueled my ongoing continuing education and training to become an OCD specialist. Working at Clearview Horizons allows me to build upon my passion by providing targeted and individualized therapy for children, adolescents, and adults with OCD, anxiety and/or perfectionism.
